Financial Support – Europe/Erasmus

 General Information

• Exchange students do not pay tuition fees at VSE partner universities. In addition, they receive a grant for study abroad in the form of a scholarship.
• Scholarship is not claimable.
• Scholarship serves as a financial support for increased expenses related to the realization of the mobility. However, it is necessary to take into account that you will need to use your own funds as well.
• Students do not have to provide accounting documents proving how they used the scholarship. The main documentary proof of a realization of the study abroad, and thus of the corresponding use of scholarship, is a Transcript of Records and a Confirmation of Study Period.
• Host countries are divided into groups by cost of living. To each group, the corresponding amount of scholarship is assigned. An overview of the scholarship amounts assigned by the Czech National Agency:

Calculation of the Duration of the Mobility and of the Scholarship Amount

• The length of stay is calculated with regard to the exact number of days.
• The first day of the mobility is usually the beginning of an Orientation Programme or the orientation/registration day itself. The first day of the mobility might be also the first day of a language course hosted by the partner university.
• The last day of the mobility is the day of the last academic duty (the day of the last exam, team project, etc.)
• Scholarship is also calculated with regard to the exact number of days (one month = 30 days; student receives 1/30 of the monthly flat rate for each day of the mobility).
• The receiving institution reserves the right to decide, whether a scholarship will be granted for the whole duration of a study abroad, or for its part only.

In case of study abroad programmes that run longer than one semester (nowadays concerns students of certain Double Degree programmes), it is usually set for which part of the mobility the scholarship will be awarded.

 Payment of the scholarship

The scholarship amount as well as the moment of its payment varies by individual scholarship programmes.

Information for students going on Exchange to a European country except for Switzerland:

• The Payment will be transferred as Euro Payment (it is not SEPA payment).
• The bank account to which scholarship will be transferred must be of a Czech financial institution or any other EU country (regardless of account currency).
• Currency in which scholarship is paid: EUR.
• The bank account information in InSIS (Student’s portal ->  Bank accounts).
  • Select Purpose of bank account: For trip abroad benefit pay-outs. Fill in all information including the name and address of the bank account owner.
• Scholarship is transferred by the Economic Department at VSE based on data provided by the International Office.
• Scholarship is paid at the beginning of the mobility in a single payment.
• Payment of the scholarship is conditioned by:
  • The completion of all the administrative steps before the mobility.
  • If you study at VSE a programme taught in a foreign language, for which tuition fee is required, the payment of the scholarship is conditioned by VSE having obtained the tuition fee for the corresponding semester/academic year. The payment of the tuition fee does not have to be proved to the International Office as coordinators at the International Office do have this information in InSIS.

Other funding options

• Students might gain an additional scholarship directly from their VSE faculty, depending on the study abroad destination. (Up-to-date information is to be found on the website of the specific faculty and/or at the Vice-deans for academic affairs and international relations.)
• Sometimes, it is possible to get funding directly from the host university, from the embassy of the host country in the Czech Republic or on the respective portal “Study in…”.
• Additional funding might be also gained from some organization/institution/fund/foundation supporting study abroad (some tips can be found here).
