General Conditions

  • The exchange programme arranged by VSE is based on an exchange quota with VSE partner universities.
  • Students must be enrolled in a full-time study at VSE for the whole duration of the application period, for the period between the application period and the departure, and for the whole duration of study abroad. Therefore, it is impossible to interrupt your study at VSE and take part in the exchange programme at the same time.
  • Students, who have finished their study at VSE, and/or who have passed all the state exams, and/or who have passed all the state exams except for the Bachelor/Master Thesis Defence, cannot go on an exchange.
    • Due to technical and organizational reasons, it is not recommended to go on exchange during the semester in which the student wants to finish his/her study at VSE.
  • The exchange programme cannot take place in the 1st year of a bachelor study and in the 1st semester of a master study.
  • Applicants who graduated from another institution than VSE must have successfully completed at least one semester of study at VSE by the time of the application period.
  • Prior to the departure, students must have a sufficient amount of registration coupons for a full recognition of their study abroad – ideally 30 ECTS (includes credits for the exchange only), as well as for the completion of all their study duties at VSE.
  • Students cannot apply for a study abroad in a country whose citizenship they have, or where they permanently reside (data in InSIS are taken into account).
  • Students can apply in maximum of two different languages.
  • In the application form, students can have as many universities as they like (starting with their most preferred, ending with the least).
  • The selection of a preferred semester is not binding, it is not taken into account during the application period and can be changed afterwards.
  • The minimum number of points that applicants need to achieve is not set in advance. This number depends on the number of points that other applicants achieve in the actual application round (spots at partner universities are firstly allocated to applicants with the highest number of points, then stepwise to applicants with lower number of points).
  • The results are published in InSIS (Student’s portal -> My College -> My College abroad -> Selection procedure results) as scheduled.
  • Only one partner university is assigned to each successful applicant.
  • If the applicant hasn’t been succesful with any of the partner universities, he/she is placed on the waiting list.
  • VSE reserves the right not to send a student to study abroad, if he/she does not meet the requirements (e.g. academic requirements, language skills) of the host university for which he/she was selected.

Who Can Apply

  • Students with completed min of 40 ECTS and not more than 2 semesters of a bachelor study at VSE.

Bachelor’s  – 3rd year

  • Students with completed min of 40 ECTS and at least 2 semesters of a bachelor study at VSE.
  • Students, that are (during the application period) in the 6th or higher semester of a bachelor study, can apply the usual way, but their applications must be assessed by the Vice-dean of their faculty, who decides if the student can take part in the exchange or not.

Master’s

  • Students who can apply the usual way:
    • students of the 5th or higher semester of a bachelor study who will be enrolled in a master study the following academic year (for an exchange during the 2nd semester of the master study),
    • students of the 1st or 2nd semester of a master study (for an exchange during the 3rd or higher semester of the master study),
    • students that are (during the application period) in the 4th or higher semester of a master study, can apply the usual way, but their applications must be assessed by the Vice-dean of their faculty, who decides if the student can take part in the exchange or not.
  • Students that are (during the application period) in an earlier semester than mentioned above, might in substantiated cases apply via a special way. Their applications must be assessed by the Vice-dean of their faculty, who decides if the student can take part in the exchange or not.
    • Such students cannot apply via InSIS, but they must fill in a special application form that will be, upon request, available at the VSE International Office after the start of the application period.

Repeated Exchange

  • Students can go on exchange 1x during their bachelor study and 1x during their master study at VSE.
    • Participations in summer schools or internships abroad are not taken into account.
    • Students are always selected for one semester only, it is not possible to prolong the stay.
    • If a student has already taken part in the Erasmus/Erasmus+ Programme (study or internship abroad) within the frame of a study at another university, or if a student has undertaken an Erasmus/Erasmus+ internship within the frame of a study at VSE, he/she can apply for a study abroad at European partner universities, where he/she would receive the Erasmus+ scholarship. However, it is necessary to comply with the general rule, that students can receive the Erasmus+ scholarship during one level of a university study for a maximum of 12 months in total.

Repeated Applications

  • Students who applied for an exchange semester abroad in the past and did not go on exchange, can apply repeatedly. The following rules apply:
    • Students who had not been selected in the last years’ application rounds or who had cancelled their exchange in the proper way, will not be penalized in the next application round.
    • Students who had been selected but did not go on exchange, and at the same time, they did not cancel the exchange in the proper way, might be penalized in the next application round.
    • Students who were selected in one application round and refused their spot (cancelled their exchange) may not participate in any additional application rounds for exchanges in the same academic year they have already been selected for. They might re-apply in the application round for the following academic year.

Information for Applicants Who Apply in Two Different Languages

  • If a student applies for study abroad in two different languages, he/she has to prove the level of language knowledge of both languages.
    • If the student proves the knowledge of only one of these languages, all the universities for which he/she applied in the other language will be crossed out of his application.
  • To a successful applicant, only one university is allocated (the system will allocate the university that the student reach with his number of points, and which is, at the same time, the highest available preference of the applicant).
  • If no partner university is allocated to an applicant, he/she is placed on the waiting list for both languages (if the applicant proved the knowledge of both languages on B2 level).

Information for Students with a Long-term Residence Permit in the Czech Republic

  • When considering applying for an exchange semester abroad, please also check the validity, resp. the time conditions of the process of extension of your residence permit in the Czech Republic, and the conditions for a legal stay in the host country during your exchange abroad, with regard to your nationality.
  • Students from third countries are obliged to secure an extension of the long-term residence permit in the Czech Republic on time, so that they can legally return to the Czech Republic for the study purpose also after the end of their mobility.
