Did You Know…? Why Studying Abroad Is Worth It
Exchange programs offer a unique opportunity to gain international experience, broaden your horizons, and increase your chances of success on the job market. Whether it’s the Erasmus+ program within Europe or study abroad stays overseas, exchange programs open doors to the world. Here are some interesting facts you might not have known.
1. Studying Abroad Without Tuition Fees? Yes — and with a Scholarship from VSE!
Thanks to bilateral agreements between universities, students are exempt from paying tuition fees at the host institution during their stay abroad. In countries where tuition is typically very high — such as the USA, Canada, Australia, or some European countries — students can save hundreds of thousands of Czech crowns.
In addition, students receive financial support in the form of a scholarship to help cover living expenses during their stay. The amount of the scholarship varies by destination but can cover a significant portion of costs such as accommodation, food, or transportation.
TIP! At the prestigious University of British Columbia in Canada, tuition for one semester exceeds CZK 500,000. Thanks to VSE, you can study there completely free of charge.
2. Selection Process? Even Alternates Have a Chance
If a student is not successful in the selection process and is not assigned a school, they are automatically placed on a waiting list. During the year, they may be offered a spot that becomes available — for example, if another student cancels their mobility. So, the chance to go abroad remains open even after the main selection round ends.
TIP! Only choose schools in your application that you truly want to attend. If you decline an assigned spot, you won’t be placed on the waiting list, and your chance for another offer disappears.
3. International Experience Increases Employability
According to European Commission surveys, 80% of graduates said that their stay abroad helped them land their first job. Even more impressively, one in three students received a job offer during their stay abroad. Employers today value not only language skills but also adaptability, independence, and intercultural understanding — all competencies that students naturally develop while studying abroad.
TIP! Use your time abroad to build connections — attend career fairs, networking events, or workshops at the host university. Many students secure internships or job offers thanks to personal meetings with company representatives.
4. Some Partner Universities Offer Truly Unique Study Environments
Many of VSE’s partner universities offer not only high-quality education but also inspiring environments that foster creativity, collaboration, and personal growth. Whether it’s architecturally exceptional campuses, modern technological facilities, or unconventional learning spaces, each school has its own charm.
For example, at University College Dublin, students attend lectures in a former church that has been converted into a modern library. The University of Otago campus in New Zealand is considered one of the most beautiful in the world, and Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico is known for its innovative educational model, robotics labs, and design centers.
