How do I agree with using my personal data in the application?
You agree by clicking on “save entered information” button at the bottom of the page.
Do I have to do anything else apart from adding my personal details and pasting a photo (passport size, passport type) by the end of November/by the end of May?
No, there is nothing you would need to do.
When do I get my Acceptance package?
EU Students: The Acceptance package is sent to the University after the Online Application has been completed.
Non EU Students: The Acceptance package was sent to the University during October/during May.
What does the Acceptance package contain?
EU Students: The Acceptance package contains
1) Welcome Letter from International Office
2) Letter of Acceptance
3) Buddy System Letter (information about Buddy System at the University)
Non EU Students: The Acceptance package contains
1)Welcome Letter from International Office
2) Letter of Acceptance
3) “Jednotné potvrzení o studiu (in Czech)” – document confirming study in the Czech Republic (“Confirmation of Study”)
4)”Doklad o zajištění ubytování (in Czech) ” – document confirming accomodation in the Czech Republic (“Confirmation of an Accommodation”)
5)Buddy System Letter (information about Buddy System at the University)
The Letter of Acceptance is in Czech and English language. The “Potvrzeni” is in Czech only. These documents are required by the embassies in these language versions.
When do I register for courses?
The course registration starts in mid June/January. Detailed information will be sent by email.
Is there any difference between exam ECTS and credit ECTS?
No, there is no difference for exchange students.
What does it mean if I cannot choose a timetable for a course?
The course will not be opened in the upcoming semester.
Can I choose a course from the public catalogue of courses even if it does not show in the pre-registration?
No, only the courses shown in the pre-registration are available for exchange students.
How do I know how many ECTS is an intensive course worth?
You can check in the public catalogue of courses on ISIS.
Some of the courses on the course list specify the language they would be taught in, including English. What is the language of tuition for the courses that do not have this specification?
In case the course does not have “in English” in its name, this does not neccessarily mean it would be given in a different language. Some of the courses might be in German, Spanish, French or Russian, but these have it in the name or in the syllabus. Apart from the courses of Czech language, none of the courses in the pre-registration is taught in Czech.
Do I get ECTS credits for intensive courses?
You will get ECTS credits for the intensive courses. The intensive courses are proper courses, they just have a different timing.
In case I have courses from different faculties, how many minutes does it take to walk from one to the other?
All the courses offered to exchange students are taught in one campus (even though the faculty may be different).
Is it possible to stay in a single room?
No, only shared rooms are available.
Is it possible to share a room with a Czech student?
It is the dormitory manager’s decision who stays where and with whom. Usually, international students stay together and their Czech counterparts are in the same block of dormitory.
When is the earliest move in date?
The earliest move in date is 5 days before the Orientation week starts.
What is the diference between the lecture classes and the seminar classes?
Lectures are usually given to a bigger number of students. Students sit in class, listen to the teacher and take notes.
The seminars are classes in smaller groups, they are more like practising, traning, calculating, performing, there are more disscussions, presentations.
Some courses have just a lecture, some just a seminar and some have a lecture and a seminar.
What if intensive courses overlap with my regular courses?
It is very likely that an intensive course will overlap with another course. Since it is not possible to be on two places at once, one of the classes is not attended in the time of the clash (usually the regular class). As it is not nice to skip a lot of classes, it is more than wise to plan the intensives carefully.
I am staying for the whole academic year. Do I have to pre-register for courses for Fall and Spring Semester at once?
No, the pre-registration is done before every semester separately.
My notebook is a macbook (Apple computer). Is it compatible with the university facilities?
The macbook is able to connect to the eduroam network (wireless network at university), all the web applications are compatible. The iprint application sometimes makes problems during the inicial instalation, however, it should be fine afterwards. In case of ongoing problems, the Helpdesk in room 22SB can help.
Is there an on campus canteen? How much does a meal cost?
Yes, there is an on campus canteen. There are two donated meals a day per student. The cost of a donated meal is approx. 40 CZK. In the canteen on campus, however, there are non donated meals on offer as well. These meals tend to cost 50 – 80 CZK.
